A. B. Simpson... Faith
A. B. Simpson |
I just have a few minutes before I have to leave on a short trip, but I wanted to share with you some thoughts on faith by A. B. Simpson. True faith does not come naturally for anybody; it is a gift of God. It is sometimes called saving faith. The disciples asked for INCREASED faith, and Jesus told them about a KIND of faith that was like a grain of mustard seed. At one point, He told them (when it is well translated) "Have the faith of God!" (Mark 11:22).
Paul said, "Not I, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God (again, when it is well-translated, Galatians 2:20). I place a lot of emphasis in Christ living in us, so that through us, He shows His love (Jn.17:26), His joy (Jn.15:11), His peace (Jn.14:27) and, as we now see, His faith. "He that has the Son has life" - His life, which is eternal. "Christ in you, the hope of glory." Here's what Simpson said...
Faith is an actual, spiritual force. It is, no doubt, one of the attributes of God Himself. We find it exemplified in Jesus in all His miracles. He explains to His disciples that it was the very power by which He withered the fig tree, and the power by which they could overcome and dissolve the mightiest obstacles in their way. There is no doubt that while the soul is exercising through the power of God the faith that commands what God commands, that a mighty force is operating at that very moment upon the obstacle, a force as real as the currents of electricity or the power of dynamite. God has really put into our hands one of His own implements of omnipotence and permitted us to use it in the name of Jesus according to His will and for the establishment of His Kingdom.
