Martyn Lloyd-Jones on God's Presence

Labels:

Dr. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones
( 12/20/1899 - 3/1/1981)
I fear that the trouble with us is that we are blind to our true spiritual state and condition. Alas, we will persist in examining ourselves in the light of activities and, if we are busy, we imagine that all is well. But, my dear friends, the test of a Christian is not his business and activities, it is his knowledge of God. It is his knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not difficult to be busy, but if you try to realize His presence, you soon discover you have to give time to it.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones from To Know Him
             in his Revival Series:

Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,  but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:23-24, ESV2011)

And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (John 17:3, ESV2011)

Now listen to Lloyd-Jones' impassioned voice in this short excerpt from a message on the presence of God.

Would you like to hear more? Here is Lloyd-Jones being interviewed on British television by Joan Bakewell. He gives the biblical view of the condition of a human being in the eyes of God. Especially notice, towards the end, his statement about the need to confront the sinner with the Law of God:

Lloyd-Jones doctorate did not come from formal theological study. He was a medical doctor, called to preach the gospel. He was a man of God, taught by God and wrote volumes of commentary books, which are highly theological. It is not the dry theology of a professional, but the living theology from a man, who knew God and walked with Him. Here is another interview and, while you are at these YouTube sites, you may want to listen to other Lloyd-Jones messages.
